Other information:

A new 'book' is hitting the wasteland, and one that actually has quite a bit of use to most denizens of the stinking helhole we call the wasteland. "The fighter manifesto" recently hit hand print, with multiple introductions to different fighting styes are contained within, with hand drawn illustrations and everything. Some different styles included are:
-'Chete (A sword combat style designed around the use of machetes.)
-Dirty fencing (A wilder, more offensive epee style based on the use of varied thrusting weapons.)
-Speartet ( A combination of different tribal spear and pike styles.)
-Leglock (A primarily leg based style of wrestling)

The one time edition doesn't come cheap, but is starting to pop up all around the wasteland.

-The University Has declared War on the SBOS. University Professors are scrambling to claim all previously SBOS contested technology.

The University's Dean has long been believed to be going crazy, and it is a well known rumor that he has lived a ridiculously long time. It is rumored that this decision is just proof that he's getting on in the years, and it spell unstability for the university in the future.

The SBOS, despite now fighting a war on two fronts, is undaunted. The University's decleration of war is little more then a blow to morale, stealing valuble technology out from under the Brotherhood. Based on the percieved increas in manpower due to the University's war declaration, the Confederacy and Southern Tribes are both preparing for counterattacks to drive the SBOS out of their territory.

Signback invasion? Due to recent reports of a large group of raiders, known as the "signbacks", have appeared in mass near the western border of the southern wastes. The Texas rangers have mobilized multiple small groups to invistigate the situation and check on known settlements. This solidifies their rumored decision to claim the entire territory of former Texas. Sigtings of small groups of Rangers, with supplies for long trips and basic weaponry and equipment are already starting to come in.

The recently arrived carravan from Nashville had left Bucket Town/Copperton in search of greener pastures. It is unkown if and when Bucket Town will be visited by another. Texas rangers have been spotted to the south. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Organization information:

News from the front:

A wartime pact:
After crushing losses from retaliating groups of SBOS scouts, the University has officialy joined the Anti-Agression pact with the Tribes and The Confederate Remnant. While unable to organize a full alliance, The Remnant, University, and The Tribes now have the ability to focus all of their efforts against the SBOS.

The push for victory:
Having drawn out from most of their northern exploration endevours, the SBOS is now focusing the majority of their troops on the Confederates to the south and the Tribes to the west. With a much larger force at his disposal, southern Marchwarden Vikkers has led repeated, well planned, well informed assualts on Confederate positions. The confederate line, although heavily entrenched, is now in a continual state of retreat and reformation. It is believed Tribe leaders are making plans to run stealth scouting missions through the now weakened western line. While they are wililng to give as much information to the Confederates as possible, the question remains. Will intelligence be enough to halt the errosion of the northen front? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Organization information:

Strange reports in old ruins Are the wastes juciest gossip at the moment, and nobody knows for sure where they started. While the details are different from telling to telling, the main idea is simple, and odd, at best.
Apparantly, travelling scavangers and merchants came upon a group of totally bald, smiling cultists, all clad in pure white. What where they doing? Renovating a totally isolated (by rubble mainly) section of some large patch of ruins. Clearing up garbage, replacing windows, giving everything a fresh coat of paint, the whole shebang.

A quickly drawn truce Much to the relief of many merchants, caravans, and travelers, The Lousiana school board and the Texas Rangers have seemd to exhausted themselves on eachother. For the time being, The Lousiana School Board has decided to ithdraw from most large scale raids in response the Texas Rangers, instead focusing on toll roads and paths as a source of income. The Texas rangers are content to keep a close eye on their counterparts activity, and although the situation is tense, it is expected that there will be a great influx of movement to the west while the oppourtunity lasts.

Local news:

Bucket Town is hopeful! While the economy based on hunting has managed to keep most of the locals fed and relatively secure, a lack of traveling merchants has crippled them for the most part. With more and more hides piling up and no buyers for the time being, the informal economy is unstable at it's best. Taking an advantage of such a volitile enviornment, it is rumored that some are organizing to fight Gerade's new laws and turn BucketTown into a chem-brewing heaven. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Bossman Ranemith worked his men hard and himself harder. He'd been working on as little sleep as possible since the day he'd moved up in the Louisiana Board Of Education (although they mainly just called themselves 'Lobs' for short), and that had been weeks ago. Now he was Bossman of the toll outpost of a fairly popular wandering route, and he was forced to spend his days managing his own men and the ocassional passing merchants or riffraff. It wasn't a simple task, and it was all politics at this point.

The new big bossman had made the controversial move of calling off a great deal of raids and agreeing not to attack the Texas Rangers, and it's almost gotten him killed multiple times. Ranemith only really got the job because he'd always supported the idea of going legitimate, and he'd managed to pull most of the smaller gangs under him in the same direction. The Lobs could only really claim northern Louisiana, and Ranemith was assigned to their southernmost toll road, which was still a good distance from the great swamps.

If things turned too sour for the new Big bossman, Ranemith had taken it upon himself to be prepared to hold strong and rally as many supporters as possible, taking the southern edge of Lob territory for himself. With each passing day, it seemed as though that was becoming closer to reality. By his own personal estimates, less then a third of the Louisiana Board of Education was supportive of the more withdrawn policies, and the nonsupporters where quickly heading in the direction of a violent solution. Ranemith tinkered with his own rifle and prepared himself for what would undoubtedly be another hard day. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Skirmishes at the border!

Tensions arose this week between patrolling Texas rangers and so called 'Lobbers' and many small skirmishes where reported, originating somewhere on the border between Texas and southern Louisiana when a patrolling group of rangers was attacked and overrun. The Louisiana School Board officially claims no connection to the attack, although it has responded in kind to newfound aggression from the Rangers, no large scale attacks have been made, yet.

As LOB raiders prepare their makeshift weapons, the faint whisper of 'Draun' echos acrossed the desert. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Ark Stunna was the acting leader of clan Stunna, and under his short time as it's ruler, it had seen much decay. Even in it's height, Swamper clan Stunna was a weak relic of times past, pushed about freely by stronger clans, and eventually forced to the edge of the swamp, where 'outlanders' journying in for riches where a constant burden.

Ark's father, Jonas, was stricken down years ago after a small dispuite with clan Fierre. It was the last blow to the clan, and sense then, it had done little but shrink and weaken. Ark's tragic thoughts where suddenly inturrupted from a short yell on other one of their boats. "Somethin' be a'movin' 'round down 'dere real damn quick, Ark."

Ark loaded his shotgun with care. It was rusted and weak from years of being handed down, much like all of the clan's weapons. He yelled back quickly. "A bedlurk? O' maybe onna those no-eye catfish?" He waited for a response, but none came. Each of the small canoes only had three people. One rower, one spotter, one extra. He looked over and his face was suddenly blasted by a torrent of swamp water, and his own boat rocking violently. A truely massive Grator had ripped itself up onto the forwardmost boat, snatching it's spotter in it looming maw.

The rower went into a panic, diving into the water and off the boat ad the grator ripped it's way to the extra man on board. The extra man fired an old wooden hand canon at the beast, blasting metal shavings and other fragments into it's gullet. It continued unimpeded, coming down on the hapless swamper and ripping him apart with mighty claws. The other boats errupted with gunfire directed at the beast, but to no avail.

"You gotta get the weakspot! On the top o' it's head! On the top o' it's head!" As he spoke, the grator submerged, the first canoes wreckage all about it. The man who'd attempted to swim to saftey quickly disappeared underwater, and the second canoe was rammed from below, overturning and sending it's passengers into the murky swamp.

"They don't live in water this deep, what da' 'ell is going on!" The three of them where all absorbed in a mighty lash from the beasts tail. And the swamp suddenly became terrifyingly silent, other then the heavy strokes of the last surving rower, and the sounds of their last canoe pushing backwards through the water.

The spotter worked his lever action and preyed to Laffa 'yet, clan Stunna's patron saint and founder. Ark felt a strange sensation overcome him. He drew his heavy and ancient broadsword, weilding it in both hands. The beast emerged, clearing the water as it writhed towards their canoe. It swallowed the spotter hole, his form escaping in the blackness of the monster's mouth.

Ark felt rage surge through him, and he let out a terrible groan as he leaped towards the looming grator. He escaped it's great bight narrowly, plunging his huge blade to the hilt into a week spot in the monsters skull. It let out a magnificent death rattle, rolling and thrashing before suddenly growing silent. The now tranquil monster was the largest creature Ark had ever seen, or even heard of in the most outrageous stories.

The water remained still for a long time, and the rower suddenly spoke. He was far Ark's elder, and a seasoned adventurer. He was the clans only remaning priest. "Draun required a sacrafice of men." He paused. "In return, our clan gains prosperity. This is a great omen, son." _______________________________________________________________________________________________

Big news in Bucket town!

Many are still uncertain on the small trading outposts political and economic future, but for now, things are looking up. The recent peace, although unsteady, between Rangers and Lousiana School Board gangs has lead to what may be momentary prosperity to the west. Large numbers of merchants, travellers, and expeditionary forces are flooding through the western passageways that are interstate highways and Louisiana School Board toll roads.

The influx of travellers is believed to have stirred local nomad and tribal populations, however, and some say peaceful tribes may soon turn violent to defend their lands from the waves of outsiders.

Switching of sides?

In an odd turn off events that are just now reaching the ears of the western wastes, The University, quick to turn on the Brotherhood when the oppourtunity presented itself, has now signed a non-agression agreement with them.

Although attacks on the Confederacy are now a constant, many see this as a sign of a weakening Brotherhood resolve, with rumors of Brotherhood officials trading off valuable tech to University Professors to sweeten the deal.

Sadly, without University inquisitions to bite at the Brotherhoods Northern Front, the Confederacy has little hope of respite. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Organization information:

The confederates do what they do best.

In a shocking (at least from the point of view of the Brotherhood) turn of events, a joint effort from both the Tribes and the Confederacy has forced the brotherhood into a temporary ceasefire. Using information from tribal scouts, a dispatch of Confederate soldiers managed to capture, and hold hostage, an entire research group consisting of what's rumored to be nearly thirty brotherhood scribes.

The daring capture of the researchers, who where operating out of a converted facility on the coast, has given the Remnant enough leverage to demand a temporary ceasefire. Altough the Brotherhood has halted it's march south into Confederate territory, it is rumored that the Brotherhood is scrambling to free-up even more recources for the continuing war. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

A new expedition It's rumored efforts are being made in New Orleans to outfit a seaworthy vessel to explore along the coast and perhaps even into the carribean. Funded by local merchant barons, the ship is expected to be loaded down with valuable swamp cotton, local brass, and other raw goods for sale to foreign populations.

Ranger realignment The texas Rangers are finding themselves reestablishing old trade routes and bringing law to formerly lawless settlements. With a long break from skirmishing with the Louisiana Board of education in sight, the rangers have gotten a much needed chance to spread their numbers. With new patrols scanning the texas border for local raiders and ruffians and a fair increase in numbers from local towns they've helped, it seems an expansion from the eastern border deeper into texas is on the horizon.

Louisiana Landslide Infighting and confusion among the different bosses in the Louisiana Board of Education is starting to weaken the once powerful L.O.B. heirarchy. While the leadership of a new head-boss seems to be bringing order through way of new toll roads and the circulaton of their own currency among members, his strength is fading in the face of what is, as it stands, an unorganized mob. Even more troubling are reports of continual, unprovoked attacks from the southern swamps. While likely not planned, smart money says they will be forced to remain neutral to the Rangers while they settle these issues._______________________________________________________________________________________________

Eastern peace

Rising issues in the Lousiana Board of Education finally erupted, and it's rumored the currently peaceful leadership has taken fire (literally) from the powerful old guard. It's believed at least two gangs are in open rebellion against School Board leadership, and in a panic a treaty was signed, with heavily favorable sidings toward the Texas Rangers. Many gangs see this open peace with the Texas Rangers as a sign of a true split from original ideals. Many predict a civil war, although it's still heavily uncertain, as is the future of the School board at large. Either way, as long as the School board is embroiled in internal conflict, it's sure that the east has found itself in a more stable peace then it has in long memory.

Western war A new marchwarden, new rules. It is rumored that the old leader of the Brotherhood's southern front has been replaced with a straight up brawler of a general bent on ending the ceasefire and the war entirely with seldgehammer like engagements. Rumors seem to be true, with the confirmation that troops have amassed near an unknown town near the front (supposedly a newly found source of fuel for the Confederacy) for what can only be assumed is a strategic capture and the start of a final push into confederate territory!

Wartime debt act In a rare governmental move, the Confederacy has announced an interesting, although seemingly desperate measure. It will now take the debt of any debbters, bondsman, or other such vagrants (Including some debt-slaves) who willingly sign onto the confederate military. An uncommon, and unexpected move from what tends to be a hands-off government, smart money says the act is a desperation measure to beef up troop numbers, and help fortify a line that is soon to be under renewed attack. Rumor has it that many of these new debt-soldiers are amassing near the same unnammed town that Brotherhood is gathering on. Surely, if this is true, the area will soon be a hotbed of activity.

Joining the joint-state In an odd move, in contradiction to their normal policies, it seems the Arkansas-Mississippi joint state is looking to allow the anex of a small group of communities in the area. Hopeful onlookers see it as a new leaf for the normaly very closed and controled society, others see it as little more then a desperation measure with rumors of near universal food and equipment shortages among the Postmaster government.

City state blues It's rumored something is brewing in the normally quite isolated city state known as Crescent Top (Or Nawlins, depending on who you're talking to.) Although known as a merchant community, rumors are that something is afoot in the swamp, and although unknown what exactly is happening, it's said the many traders are being turned away. Some seem to have planes for Last Hope, although many have been forced farther west in attempt to ply expensive wares.

What exactly is happening in Crescent Top? Nobody knows for sure, but combined with the cease-fire between the Rangers and LSB, you can bet great-dunes fringe communities are going to prosper as a result.

News from the front!

Bell-John Hood, the so called "Wolf of the West" surveyed the area, from his grenadiar pit, with his homemade spyglass. The ruddy brown of the field in front of him jumped every few seconds as he flinched from a random assortment of explosions. He ignored them - it was by his own order, after all, and the continued fire from his newly added artillery regiment was good for morale. The booms made it seem like this might actually be a line that they could hold, and had the effect of keeping much more accurate Brotherhood Snipers at bay. He'd ordered the artillerymen to switch over to liquid based weaponry, and although it was a wasteful manuever, he had no qualms about ordering it. Being a tribal war veteren had it's benefits, after all, and none of his men minded that he was pilfering from the supplies they where supposed to be protecting.

It'd been a four day engagement, and the morning had brought the first end in immediate fighting in that time. Before that, it'd been nearly two weeks of continual minor retreats. The ill-established defensive efforts he'd managed to throw together could rarely hold against more then one Brotherhood assualt, and they'd been nothing but agressive, badly injuring Hood's excuse for an army. He'd only barely settled into his newest defensive posititon, a muddy, long, narrowly sloping hill, when he'd recieved a new message from- well, some asshole official- the name didn't matter. What did matter was his new priority, and that was holding his line until the last man until further communication was established.

The message was less then ideal, but for once, his 'troops', if you could call them that, where in fighting condition. He'd finally met with two groups of the newly created debt-soldiers, although they where the first batch. Back before the debt-act allowed them to be combat oriented, the debtors where little more then general laborers, although they where more useful then half of his actual fighters. With the debtors busy trying to create fortifications out of the sloppy brown earth around them, he had a chance to give most of the men a slight break. He'd even let them set up with the "Belle Corps" - and although the women of the Entertainment Regiment generally didn't see open combat, lace, skirts, and all, they where invaluable when it came to preparing men for it.

He knew the Brotherhood would be upon him again before the next night.

The front becomes more dynamic!

A critically important defense by Bell-John Hood in the north has finally halted the continual advance of Brotherhood Knights. His coalition forces held key fuel stores even after nearly two weeks of constant bombardment. The stalled Brotherhood forces now face the first well fortified line they have since the first outbreak of war, and as more and more debtor troops flood into the front, an excess of labor has resulted in increasingly defensible posts. In an effort to avoid loss of momentum, Brotherhood troopers outside of the main front are reportedly being diverted towards attacks on spread researchers from the university. With few mercenaries willing to face the Brotherhood outright, the University is facing devastating losses even as the Confederacy finally seems to find stability in its ranks. The Confederacy hopes that this may finally spurn the University into sharing basic techniques for large scale production of firearms, but the University is still hesitant in providing the Remnant with a means to supply themselves with a mass amount of equipment, even as basic as it may be.

The West Continues to stabilize

Although Skirmishes between Rangers and Lobber recruits are still often and widespread, the leadership of the two organizations is increasingly trying to reign in the feud. Infighting between various Lobber gangs has left the organization exhausted, and although it seems a more peaceful leadership has retaken control, information on the LBE is still notoriously unreliable. More concretely, various different toll roads and systems of highway ambush are appearing on the western border of Louisiana, and gang presence is continually weakening outside of these more passive efforts. The Rangers, too, it seems, are encountering a wide variety of trouble, and as their region of influence expands resistance towards the movement is increasing drastically. Even as establishment of safer trading routes in Eastern Texas earns them favor among many travelers, local ruffians and more entrenched populaces are increasingly attacking and attempting to profit from raids and robberies from the group. Even so, the Ranger's newfound ability to divert Ranger's from the east and their increasing funds from bodyguard missions and the clearing of smaller gangs has reinforced their ability to post, and make good on, bounties they place on local gang leaders and ne'er do wells who have a history of offenses against the Rangers.
